The Army’s existing Multi-Function Video Display (MVD) system found on select MRAP vehicles is an ideal platform to add artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to next-gen autonomous vehicles like the Next-Gen Combat Vehicle and its companion vehicles.
The Army has tasked the new Army Futures Command with six key goals as the service re-invents its warfighting capabilities under the “near peer” threat with China and Russia. The goal to bring autonomous vehicles to the battlefield—either as “manned/unmanned teaming” (MUMT) or completely self driving—has captured a lot of attention. To achieve the massive artificial intelligence and machine learning involved, Army planners can leverage the current Multi-Function Video Display (MVD) system found on select MRAP vehicles.
