GENERAL DESCRIPTION

At the center of GMS’s Cross Domain Multi Stack (Airborne) Mission Computer/Server is its X9 SPIDER™ small form-factor (SFF) computer modules, each of which can fit in the palm of your hand. The X9 SPIDER™ family is the ultimate in SFF products and is designed for MOSA (Modular Open Standard Approach) via COTS industry standard interfaces, like Ethernet, Thunderbolt™ 4, and USB.

The X9 SPIDER™ employs GMS’s patented RuggedCool™ and Diamond RuggedCool2™ cooling technology for long life in extended temperature environments. At the chassis level, per-bay cooling conducts heat to the chassis heat exchanger, keeping the system reliably cool over a wide temperature range. The X9’s patented case fin design increases surface contact area, thereby enhancing both conduction and convection system cooling.

All domains, “Red” and “Black”, “Landing Zone (Purple)”, each employ X9 Domain I/O controllers and have two removable SSDs, one for the operating system and one for FIPS 140 2/CSfC secure storage. Opening a drive bay door triggers an intruder alert, which can be an NMI that causes zeroizing. With optional on-board power, a non-externally powered system can automatically sanitize itself when the alert is triggered. The hard-wired Intruder line prevents X9 modules from being removed.

Each domain is fully power isolated from the other, ensuring that the system is TEMPEST certifiable. The chassis (system) includes dual isolated power, opto-isolated digital inputs, internal fiber optic 40 Gbps communication via Thunderbolt, and internal Faraday cages for EMI isolation and zero crosstalk, as well as an anti-tamper system and GMS’s patented Enhanced SecureDNA™ with CAC (token for SIPR), intruder daisy-chain, and zeroize-without-power capability. Never before has this much security been available in such a full-featured, lightweight CDS, off-the-shelf or otherwise.

Each domain can be optioned to include a GPGPU for Fast-Fourier Transform, In-Phase and Quadrature, and Machine Learning data. The system can also be optioned to include a Thunderbolt™ 4 tablet display with touchscreen and front panel control buttons including Zero. The tablet uses a fiber link for EMI, cyber, and long-distance cabling.

Cross domain data access is controlled by a TACLANE® (KG-175) HAIPE® Type 1 encryptor that is NSA-certified and uses the latest in crypto technology to provide high assurance protection of voice, video, and classified data. CAC readers authenticate users and an optional General Dynamics Mission System TACDS® provides filtering and a rules-based approach data diode between Purple and Red domains. Both the TACLANE® and TACDS® can be sanitized.

DOMAIN I/O CONTROLLER SECURITY

X9 Domain I/O Controllers are part of the GMS SecureDNA™ cyber solution. Modules have (up to) three-stage sanitization and include hardware and software elements. Drives and other smart devices can be sanitized and a “normally closed” intruder daisy chain can initiate SecureDNA™ if a cable is cut or disconnected, or if a drive is removed. With additional elements, SecureDNA™ can operate with no external power supply(ies).

APPLICATIONS

The GMS Domain I/O Controller is an integral part of a cross-domain system consisting of: Landing Zone, Red, and Black. Designed for use with a hardware cross-domain device (such as GD-MS TACDS®) and Type 1 encryptor (such as GD-MS TACLANE®), the Domain I/O realizes multiple cyber capabilities. For Ground applications, the push-to-talk (PTT) and MIL STD 1553 interfaces are ideal for armored vehicles. For Airborne, the Starlink™/Starshield™ SATCOM interface and Common Access Card allow data access via Link-16 and JREAP as part of JADC2. In Shipboard installations, long-haul fiber interfaces allow Distributed Computing Architecture X9 Spider connectivity while saving weight. The Domain I/O controller is modular inside and can realize myriad security functions and custom hardware or I/O capabilities.
